Meet the founder
Colin McLeod
Founder, Virtually OnSite

I have spent more than two decades building, managing, and improving the technology that businesses depend on every day. My background spans both sides of technology: writing the software people use and managing the infrastructure that keeps it running.
Why I built VOS
Throughout my career, I repeatedly saw businesses lose time and money because the right person did not have enough information before making a decision. A technician drives to a job without knowing what tools or parts will be needed. A support team struggles to understand what a customer is seeing. A simple issue becomes multiple calls, repeat visits, and unnecessary frustration.
I built Virtually OnSite to solve that problem. VOS gives support teams and service professionals a simple way to see what the customer or technician sees through a mobile device. They can troubleshoot in real time, provide visual guidance, capture important details, and document the session before deciding what needs to happen next.
I approached VOS as a developer, business owner, and problem solver who has spent years building practical systems for real businesses, not as someone looking for a technology trend to follow.
Experience that shaped Virtually OnSite
Earlier in my career, I served as Director of Technology for the Moline Dispatch, where I developed and deployed a custom editorial system across four newspapers. I also led the company's transition from Windows-based infrastructure to Linux, improving security and significantly reducing operating expenses.
I later became President of DIG! LLC, the digital division of the Small Newspaper Group. I managed budgets, projections, product development, sales, production, billing, training, and the rollout of new digital services. That experience taught me to evaluate technology not only by what it can do, but by whether it creates measurable value for the business using it.
As a full-stack developer with Ultrux Data Solutions, I have continued developing software products, APIs, point-of-sale integrations, and the infrastructure required to support business-critical systems. I have also founded and operated other technology-driven businesses, giving me firsthand experience with developing products, supporting customers, managing costs, and continually improving a service.
Practical technology with a measurable purpose
Virtually OnSite brings that experience together. I understand software development, infrastructure, field service challenges, customer support, and business operations. A product must be reliable, secure, easy to use, and capable of producing a real return for the companies that invest in it.
My goal is not to add more complicated technology to your operation. It is to help your team solve problems faster, reduce unnecessary trips, arrive better prepared, improve customer communication, and create a clearer record of the work performed.
